How to reverse parallel park using only mirrors......don't. This is not a good idea - even on an empty street at 7am on Saturday. Why try such a thing - it goes like this. I need my car to haul things - hubby drives sedan which is icy and parked behind me, I have overslept due to sick child all night and am in a rush.....you get the picture. Anyway, seeing the world through two tiny side mirrors is not enough to be safe - I made it - but it was not the best way to do things - and actually it was the sort of ice where you can see a patchy world through front and back.
But I think that is often the world we inhabit in our lives - a world of patchy vision, We see things from a perspective which we may not even understand ourselves to have because we are planted in a time and place. There are all sorts of things we know about ourselves and all sorts of things we do not. You can go the psychological route with these to a certain extent but I believe that there is an even deeper level of knowing, understanding and seeing which can only be accessed through faith in God.
God is universal and all embracing and it is only in this communion that we can begin to be a part of a truly big picture. The sight that we receive through the Holy Spirit is something which simple therappy or self-awareness will not necessarily open up to us as it is a sight which plumbs all the depths and heights of creation. That is not to say that any of us will hold all of those at any given time but that the possibility of seeing as God sees is given to all of us and that the gift of vision is not limited but may take patience - sitting on the driveway and waiting for the defrost or even scraping the windshield!
