When I saw her she was watching
As if the whole of humanity
Rested in her eyes
The child she held
A vessel of the person
Waiting to be filled with
Her wisdom and love.
When I saw her she was broken
Her limbs withered, hungry
Her face darkened
Sunken
Waiting to be saved.
The child?
When I saw her she was watching
The wisdom of the world in her eyes
The child, the vessel of all humanity
Broken and restored
Waiting to be filled with
Our life and love.
