Another day.....

This time of year is nuts for parents - everything is winding down and there is at least one end of year event every day. Yesterday was the end of year orchestra concert - today was band - although we did not have to go - just retrieve the now thirteen year old who went to listen to her friends as our, now daily, thunderstorm began.

The gates are done but still need hardware - I have not got pictures - yet - for those who are interested.

I am actually not a big fan of summer - I like the routine which the rest of the year has. I do much better with routine than without it - I think a lot of people are the same. Once we get knocked off our times and places we can find it hard to retain our equilibrium. From our need for regular sleep to the seasons and to our daily habits we are designed to be creatures of routine.

Summer makes me start again, think differently. It raises a new set of expectations and behavior. I am not sure whether such a long break for the kids is good - but it does mean the opportunity to look at life from a different perspective and to reconnect with aspects of life which can easily get overlooked in the rush and bustle of the academic year.

I think this summer I am going to be more deliberate about seeking God in the cracks - in those small places inside and in between which it is easy to overlook as the days fly by or stretch on. Take time to smell the roses - and take time to find God in those places which are new and different at this time of year. The routine of daily prayer and offering, of course, remains. But in the bright summer light, God might just paint some vivid colors in our lives.
