Through a lack of parking and what turned out to be good fortune I ended up at K Street today. I am not going to was lyrical - I am all too aware that Churches are all made up of very human people with equally bad doses of irritation and irritability but here's the thing.....the ritual gives me space to go deeper.
This might not make sense if you are not from a part of our tradition which uses visual and tactile medium in worship heavily but I am and I realized, not for the first time, that keeping my body busy with things it is very familiar with, actions and words, can open up a deeper path to communion with God.
I think I would like to write more about this but not here - it is a much longer thought than a daily blog. There is a lot to be said for allowing ourselves to enter into mystery - for allowing ourselves to be taken physically and spiritually to a place of union with Christ. Ritual can be a heavy anf onorous set of actions in its worst place but in its best it is a vehicle for grace, it is a vehicle for our meagre humanity to limp to the throne of grace and there to find ourselves filled, lifted, transformed and even transfigured so that our all becomes our all in all.
