It struck me this morning, listening to a CD which someone had left in my car.....what an amazing thing it is to live simply on hope. I think in a tradition where we have so much that is very tangible we are in some ways spoiled - our senses have plenty to keep them alive and our sense of encounter is bolstered in our everyday reality. But I wondered about hope, about hope of a final great encounter and the astounding faith that that takes to maintain without the reality of a present day meeting with Christ.
Is there such a Christianity? I am not sure. But whilst we certainly do look forward as a living and vital part of our faith we are also called to encounter with the risen Christ now, across life's storms and in life's pathways. Jesus calls us and His voice excites our response - even in dangerous seas. His voice spurs on our faith and re-envigors our hope that at our end and our new beginning we will indeed be one with him, even as now we are invited to join him in celebration and sacramental unity - then such veils will be removed. Such is our hope.
