In his Letter to the Colossians the first thing Paul does is give thanks for his respondants' faith. He not only give thanks but tells them that he does so frequently. What a wonderful thing - to have someone giving thanks for your faith.
Moreover what a wonderful thing to give thanks for our own faith - how often do we take it for granted that it simply is and will be. I have been overcome with gratitude time and again recently as I am buffeted by various storms of life that when I stop and consider I do feel the presence of God - and even when I do not take the time to savor the experience - God is nevertheless an ever present reality in my life.
Perhaps upset and the threat of removal from something temporal does make this more real to us but even then, do we remember to say thank-you for our faith. Yesterday I was having a conversation where I was talking about how I felt immensely grateful to be a person of faith - but I am not sure that I ever got around to saying thank-you to God for the generosity of that calling.
Nothing in life is perfect but the path of faith is one of the few guarantees that we can have - God is always all around it and at the end of it. Let's be thankful for that and lets also be thankful for those around us who share in sacred journey - ever rejoicing with one voice in Him who calls us all and will lead us over homeward.
