Hosea 6:6 ‘For loyalty is my desire and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. ’

Look around the world today and imagine that God still expresses that same longing. God still expresses that same longing for each one of us.

Hosea is framed as a lament over an unfaithful wife who turns away as Israel has turned away from God - but after all of that the motif is simple - God simply wants the people back because God loves them.

This is a message of profound hope and love and a great message for Friday - the traditional day of turning back to God - of repentance.

It is not all the stuff, all the actions which God is looking for, but a heart filled with love, a heart which wants to be in relationship with God, a person who is still and comfortable in God's presence. Pray that we all may turn again today and find that place of longing to be with Christ in ever more perfect union - that our actions may flow from that loyalty and knowledge and that we may grow day by day into the sacred mystery of divine life.
