Simon of Cyrene

I wonder what Simon of Cyrene felt as the heavy weight of the cross cut into his flesh - was he angry at Jesus - or at the Roman soldiers who had pulled him out of the crowds. Did he feel pity for the man whose place he walked in those few steps or fear for himself in that bizarre twist of fate?

But he was compelled by the soldiers to do this - so Luke says. We are not forced - we do this out of love, we do this because we want to walk with Jesus. Who knows what path Simon might have chosen - we do know what we have chosen and as those who have chosen we should seek Christ in all things.

Someone young and wise commented that the powerplays and struggles in the Church seemed like the powerplays and struggles in the hallways of a High School - the in crowd, the out crowd, the people with and the people without - and where is Jesus? Where is Jesus?
