parachutes and pentecost

I scared myself today. I thought it would be great to have a parachute in assembly to illustrate that God's Spirit is over us all the time (advanced theology is not my remit at these moments). There were a few things I had not worked out......and for a moment I was afraid I was going to cause a complete breakdown of order at the school as the parachute made its way clumsily around the assembly hall with the Year 6 children who were holding it trying not to step on the younger children.

I am not sure whether the point of God's covering presence got through - but I had an inspiration as I tried to regain quiet in the hall. Chaos! We had been close and one of the children got it - what did we nearly have there I asked loudly, chaos said one little voice - and we were back to Pentecost - back to the unpredictability of God's action and interaction - perfect for children - a God who plays outside the lines.
